Cape May Walking Tours

There are many ways to explore our beach town but a unique way is through a Cape May walking tour. See our city’s history up close and hear its great stories as you stroll along our Victorian sidewalks.

The Cape May Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) offers wonderful walking tours with some even themed around holidays or special events.

The most popular MAC tours include:

  • Dr. Physick’s neighborhood walking tour – Learn about Cape May’s wealthiest citizen, his home in the unfashionable part of Cape May, and view the homes of the 1600s to today’s incorporation of the Victorian style.
  • Self-guided audio tour – Set your own pace with the audio guide as you learn about the architecture and history of Cape May’s landmarks. This tour is also perfect if you want to explore Cape May by bike. The audio units are available in the Hill House office at 1048 Washington St. and the rental fee is $10.

Tickets for tours can be purchased online, by calling 609-884-5404, or at the Washington St. Mall information booth, or at the Carriage House visitors center. Be sure to check the website for dates and times of tours or to see specialty tours during Halloween or Christmas.

Cape May Food Tours is another way of exploring Cape May by foot but with the added perk of tasting your way through the city as well! The company offers the historic downtown food tour or the West Cape May food tour and couples the food tastings with information about the city’s Victorian architecture and history.

You’ll stop at six local restaurants or bars and this tour can be a fantastic introduction into Cape May’s renowned restaurant scene. You will walk about a mile and a half during the tour so bring comfortable shoes along with your appetite!

Our favorite walking tour would have to be walking the path between Stockton Inns and the beach! Explore Cape May by foot to take part in the wonderful activities or visit the historic attractions and be sure to make a room at Stockton Inns your home base!
