Let’s face it one of the top reasons to visit Cape May is for the beach and oceanfront views. While a walk along any of the sandy beaches at the Jersey Shore’s most southern point will yield incredible ocean views, there are a few places, in particular, that are extra special. Cape May Lighthouse
One of the best views in town is from the top of the Cape May Lighthouse. Open daily beginning March 27, visitors will be able to climb to the top of the lighthouse for incredible views of the ocean, beach, and Cape May. More than 2.5 million visitors have climbed the lighthouse since opening in 1988. Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for children.
Cape May Wildlife Refuge
The two-mile beach unit at the Cape May Wildlife Refuge is located just 15 minutes from the Stockton Inns in Cape May. What makes this beach so special is that it is one of the last remaining undeveloped beaches in New Jersey. The hiking trail and boardwalk are open year-round, plus two trails that provide access through the dunes.
Sit on the lifeguard stand
At Cape May Beach and a few others, the iconic lifeguard stands dot the sandy shores and make for a great place to sit and watch the sun setting over the ocean. Obviously during the day, the lifeguard stands are in use by the lifeguards, so evening is the best time. The lifeguards patrol from Cape May City proper, from “The Cove” to “Poverty Beach,” is roughly a 2.5-mile stretch.
Sunset beach
For incredible ocean views and sunsets to compliment, check out sunset beach. Located in the Lower Township, next to Higbee Beach, Sunset Beach, as you may have already guessed from its name, is known for its beautiful sunsets. Sunset Beach is the perfect spot to park your car and watch the sun go down on another lovely day in Cape May. Visitors also enjoy the Sunset Beach Grill, where you can dine al fresco with a view!
